"I'm about to build new with a 40" 4kTv serving as monitor duties, on the productive side it will be run as 4 separate monitors, with obviously gaming at full screen, so I'm also interested in both the ideal and the minimum spec for producing acceptable results for both CPU and GPU please?? I'll ideally be water cooling hardline too so also interested in potential sli options as opposed to a single higher spec card if costs work better ? at the moment the cost is fluid depending on the futureproofing/potential ceiling of lower-priced options.

So can people recommend both minimum and best case options for this build Whilst its primary use won't be for Gaming, I want to build a quality relatively futureproofed PC that will allow me to game as well a decent level rather than struggle but have no idea about the complication 4k adds to the occasion?

Thanks

dont game at 4K game at 1080p. then its pretty simply build.

1080p on 4K tv looks pretty decent & would save you butt load of cash. specially if gaming is not your main reason for building it.

( i game at 4K on TV & monitor.) Putting the TV in 1080p mode on some games makes very little loss in detail if you can pump up the options higher in my experience

What games are you playing? The basic principle is going to be a strong GPU to cope with 4K, 1080Ti would be a good bet as I think 1080 would struggle in some titles depending on frame rates required.

CPU I personally think now the 8700k prices are sensible that’s a great option.

My LG43UJ701V has 60hz capability and it’s fine at 4K and indeed supports 4096x2160 - Playerunknownbattlegrounds looks stunning at this resolution in HDR mode! - I’m running a 4790(non k) and two 1070’s in SLI.

Tbh dropping the resolution down to 1920x1080 still looks incredible on such a screen, you just max everything - AA included - and it rocks along with my setup.

That screen is currently available for £400. Would you recommend it? I notice it has active HDR but the more expensive model (UJ750V) has multi HDR. Is the difference worth £100?

Couldn’t tell you what active HDR is never mind multi :o - tbh it looks equally good in normal mode never mind HDR mode!

My partner bought the 55” version for her home tv setup and I’ve got the 43” for my desktop, I’m delighted with it - and it’s a lot more for your money than the equivalent amount spent on a dedicated monitor - mine is connected to my WiFi and I use it for iplayer and youtube independently of the pc and via a PS3 for Blu ray films, I love it and would highly recommend it to you.

I bought my rig to my partners to try it on her 55”, it looked great but I’d argue the 43” screen is sharper.

Why would you run it at that resolution when the display is 3840x2160. Your image will be squashed horizontally.
Can’t say I’ve noticed any squashing of the image tbh, I just noticed the higher option in Nvidia control panel and tried it.

Surely with 4096 pixels across opposed to 3840 the image should be marginally wider not squashed, or am I being thick there?

It’s default is 3840x2160 and I usually run it at that, it was more to see if the higher resolution would tax it (my rig) noticeably, it didn’t to my eyes.

Your TV is 16:9 ratio and 4096x2160 is not so you either get squashed image or black bars at top and bottom.

I’ve got a 1070Ti which runs Wolfenstein 2 at 4K in Ultra at near 60fps. I also play a lot of indie games which run at 4K/60fps no problem at all. In short, AAA gaming at 4K will require compromises even on a 1080Ti. In my experience the compromises are things such as lowering Shadow quality and reducing Anisotrophic filtering, AA and other minor aspects of graphics quality ie things that you don’t notice while you’re playing the game.
Gaming at 4K is perfectly achievable so long as you can live with the compromises.

Do you use any AA at 4k? I’m wondering what kind of performance hit using AA has on 4k. Wouldn’t a 1070ti be enough to hit 60 FPS on most games without AA on Ultra or High presets?

I use no AA at all as there’s no point at 4K. I have experimented with AA just for fun and there’s been between a 5 and 10fps hit with it enabled.

It depends which games you play. As I said previously, the indie games that I prefer run on 4K/60 flalwlessly. It’s only the newest AAA games that require adjustments to run at 60fps on High/ Ultra.

Thank you, I don’t play many AAA games myself, RUST PUBG and mostly VR titles

Thanks for all the Replies guys, whilst not all for me, they're all relevant so a great help!
if I can muster the funds for a 1080Ti then I'd love to just from a longevity/futureproofing point of view but I might have to drop my custom water hopes to pay for it...

Failing that nice to know the SLi'd 1070's are fine and so potentially 1070i too?

My Grand plan having failed miserably to pick anything up over Black Friday period, was to score all the parts as bargains over the Boxing day sales/new year sales, However i've failed miserably at that too....

I did score a mega bargain couldn't refuse price on the Ps4 Pro with a couple'o'games and extra controller, but just havent found the time to search for Build parts :( It doesn't help that I'm also trying to stop myself blowing the budget on a Herman Miller Aeron Too as I loved it in JL, and suffer terribly with Sciatica at the moment as well as Arthritic knees (one replaced and one to go in 9 months time after the plate removal has healed) so The budget is well and truly getting stretched in all directions, so I havent bought anything as everything is a possability untill the finds start flowing out :P

Thanks again and anyone else who games successfully on a 40"+ Tv please feel free to tell you GPU/CPU set-up :)

Cheers
