I’ve been with NTL (Virgin) for ~4 years, I’ve only got 4MB broadband, I used to have the TV and phone but cancelled it due to mobile and Digibox (I download everything I want to watch but isn’t free to air).

The more I read it strikes me I’m getting a bad deal, £25 for 4mb used to be good, but now seems quite bad, can anyone recommend a cheaper ISP? I’ll use this to bargin with Virgin or leave them to join.

Cheers

PS I was quite happy with the service but the speed restrictions (down to 2mg) in the evenings is driving me insane!

I rang virgin up and am on 20mb bb for £27. Makes your £25 for 4mb sound a little wrong.

As posted above, tell them sky have knocked on your door and offered you everything for £26 - see if they can beat it.

Cheers.

Just phoned and got the XL 20mb for the same price (£25) sounds like a good deal to me. I'm happy now. I've been with NTL for 4 years so its about time i was rewarded a little!

Thanks for the advice!

I was on Virgin and downgraded it to 4Mbit, then I left completely for Sky "up to" 16Mbit and it's simply a superior service in almost all areas. Currently getting 5Mbit for £9.99 with no caps or traffic shaping, wouldn't go back. :)

It's worth seeing if Virgin will bargain with you though, just tell them you're switching to Sky.

I rang at 13:00 and was told the 20mb sevice would take about 2 hours to upgrade its self, its now 21:25 and I’m downloading (from a newsgroup) @ 180KB/s it wasn’t this slow on 4mb with the throttling!
Good old virgin! I’ve rebooted the modem and it makes no difference, I’ll give it until tomorrow and then attempt to get through there customer service lines

make sure your area is actualy 20mb enabled as most areas arent yet! also you mite need to get them to send you a new modem if you have one of the older 6-4 year old ones!

I asked if I’d needed a new modem and the lady on the phone said no, she also checked (as have I) and my area (Macclesfield) is 20mb enabled, it’s just a bit strange that it’s lower now than it ever has been!
