Hi,

So my PSU only has a 4pin atx plug and my motherboard has an 8pin socket on it.
I currently have the four pin plug connected to 8pin socket and it works fine, but am i missing something here if the other 4pins arnt needed why are they there? would i gain anything from getting a psu with an 8 pin plug?

Thanks,
Sean

if im right the extra socket os for more power hungry processors/overclocks, my mobo has the same thing, but my psu already has these cables so i used them

Is the PSU the one in your sig?

Some manufactures supply a 8 pin and 4 pin connector rather than having 2 4 pins which snap together, you just leave this to one side.

Yeah one in sig its an OCZ StealthXstream about 3yrs old, im sure i only have 1x4pin ATX 12v and no 8 pin one.
Could this be why im fully stable at 3.75ghz @1.472v(cpuz) but i try and go too 3.8ghz and it bsods after a few runs of Intel burn test.

Edit- Just looked at the PSU's manual. Its states connectors as;
Main 24pin
Aux/12v - 4pin
PCI-e - 6 pin
SATA and MOLEX.

So there deffinatly only a 4pin connector??
