Just been to tesco and bought £15 worth of 4rib beef which was on offer ,half price so I have got a huge lump of beef to cook.

Now what's the best way to cook it? Been told to cook it in slow cooker for 7 hours or roast it for 1hr 30 mins covered in salt and pepper .

So what do you think? I'm searching the web for a decent way to cook it also but thought I'd ask on here after the beer can chicken was such a good recipe :)

If you have just bought a forerib of beef on the bone it would be a waste of the highest order to stick in a slow cooker. This is without a doubt the best roasting joint money can buy.

20 minutes at 220°C then 20 minutes per pound at 180°C in a fan oven would be the correct cooking time if memory serves.

Simply roast it allow it to rest for 15 minutes then carve and serve with your favourite fresh veg.

Placid is right.

Absolutely delicious roasted.

It just falls off the bone, the most tender meat ever. And it being on the bone and having a bit of fat with it makes it taste sooooo good. Throw some potatoes in with it for the last bit of cooking, fab roast potatoes too :)

£15 that should be more like £50 unless it came from a tiny cow.

either cut it in steaks or roast. Agree with placid but more like 15mins per pound. Or even slightly less.

If i have time i'll take a picture. For med/well beef I'm thinking 2hrs at gas Mark 6 with the first 20 mins been on highest oven setting?

that sounding about right a fair amount of conflicting advice on the usual cooking websites

Agree, forib is usually megabucks, how much weight did you get for £15?

Also agree that slow cooking it would be a crime against food. Slow cooking has its time and place, but forib is most certainly not it.

Roast it, and roast it rare. Sit it for bloody ages, serve it in nice thick slices, so you get crispy, caramelised outer and rare inside in one slice. Serve with huge yorkies, roast spuds, fresh veg, gravy from the juices and not a lot else.

IMO the perfect Sunday roast.

What is so difficult to comprehend? I might bother clicking on a thread in GD if it's about food, but I'm not going to bother going to a different section of the forums.

Exactly why is that retarded?
