4S getting hot, even while idle!

So my 4S seems to be getting hot for no apparent reason. Even while just in my pocket. I've closed all apps (double tap home button and remove) and removed Facebook which I understand can cause problems.

Running IO7.

Also, yesterday all my contacts vanished!

Any ideas? I'm due an upgrade but I was hoping to sell it and I don't want to sell a duff phone to anyone.

I dunno about idle but for a while now mine gets really hot when I am using eye witness black box recorder in the car.

Any warranty left on it? If there is get it checked out at an Apple store sir.

It's coming up to two years old so about to upgrade. The phone is acting really weirdly.
While 'allegedly' in airplane mode last night (or at least as indicated by the airplane icon) I received an email and two text messages. And the phone was mega hot then it cooled down.

It might be software related. Totally unexpectedly (this has never happened before!) I've used up all my data allowance yet I've barely used it for browsing.

Some very odd things going on there..

go into settings / general / reset and reset all network settings. See if its any better after that. I had to do this after updating to IOS7, had the same hot back and poor battery life.

I contacted Apple support (note to all, you get free support if you've just upgraded to IOS7!).
Ended up resetting my phone.
At least now airplane mode works - prior to the reset I could even call my mobile from my desk phone while in airplane mode! Raised a few eyebrows.
Lost everything in the process. Is it possible to restore from a previous backup? Or does iTunes only hold the last one taken?
