Hi, im looking for a socket 775 motherboard that has 4 pci-e 16x sockets, are there any available ? preferably with dual spacings so i can fit 4 8800gtx's in there.

ive found K9A2 AMD one which is perfectly suitable, but i wish to use my e5200 as its way faster than a phenom.....

thankyou.

no im going 4x 9800gx2 / 8800gt !!

The first option is not possible IIRC (just like you can't CFX 4 HD4870X2). I doubt they would physically fit on any motherboard anyway (boards with 4 slots tend to have them close together (like the Foxconn X58 Renaissance).

4 8800GT is possibly altough not in SLI (max two). (I assume though you want to use them for folding so they won't be in SLI).

Theres an MSI 780i board with 4 slots but i doubt they all operate at 16x, i think theres a gigabyte P45 board as well

Remember seeing this a while back:

Here's a link to info on the project - Quad GX2

4x 9800GX2's woking in tandem. Probably using customised software to get them all working together but interesting none the less - would be awesome @ folding!!!

I wonder if the Nvidia folding client would just see and use 4x9800GX2's, seeing you can pick up a 9800GX2 for around £150 on the MM it could be awesome bang for buck!

EDIT

Actaully bang for buck you'd be better off with something other than a 9800GX2'

Wow - i'd have to agree based on those results!

Looks like the numbers have changed quite a bit since i last saw them... it used to be the 9800GX2 that beat the others by a significant margin.

That said, is that data right?

The 8800GT is nearly as fast yet the GX2 uses 2x GTS'? Surely since each core can fold independantly it should get a score roughly double the 8800GT at the very least?

Nearly right - you can run two instances of the GPU client (if you disable SLI) on the GX2 so you can roughly double the points output from that graph to about 10,000 or so (mine gets about this). This makes it still the single best folding card (i think), although the newer work units mean its points output is not as high. Main problem is heat - the newer WUs get the GPU very hot. In this respect, i would advise against a lot of GX2s two black lines, unless you have a very good way to cool them all down. Example: mine runs at 100% fan speed and still reaches 78C when running two of the newer, larger projects, which is pretty hot in my book!

Im not sure if this is still the case, but i dont think that the folding client can address more than 6 GPUs on one machine? Its probably worth checking at foldingforum.org for a definitive answer, but worth checking before you go an buy 4 GX2s, only to find you cannot use one of them at all...]

EDIT: Doing some of my own reading on foldingforum, i think it is possible to get 4GX2s folding, but not under vista home version - this limits you to 8 monitors, and each GX2 gives you three in vista. One guy here says that he got 4 running under xp pro... http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=7309

They are being used for medical research so they aren't in SLI
