I'm getting confused. I was about to buy for a new vista system 2gb, made up of two 1gb geil sticks... from what i've been reading, i think it would be sensible to future proof and get 4gb in total....

but reading the FAQs and posts in here, it seems that two 2gb sticks would perform better than four 1gb sticks? did i understand it right?

also, OCUK seems to have a great selection on matching 2gb sets, and i guess that if i want 4gb, i would just have to buy two 2gbs seperately rather than a pair....

When you fill all banks with memory your motherboard quite often losens the timings and don't allow you to run it as aggresivly.

So getting 2x2gb is better than 4x1gb also it gives you 2 free slots to add more memory if you need more :)

Too bad becouse the only cheap 2x2gb memory right now is OCZ 6400 stuff, but the timings are horrible - 6400 at 5-5-5-15

Well I played around with 2 x double sided and 4x single sided sticks this was on an AMD64 years back, came to the conclusion 2 sticks were better. My advice, go for the best value option if it's a general purpose PC otherwise 2x2

Yeah however I read somewhere that when they hit the 1333mhz on the ram they will go into ddr3 which will mean it will be rediculously expensive and i guess that the ddr3 will be the only 2g sticks that will be available for the public to buy with ease.
