Hey all,

Just installed Vista Ultimate 64 and it uses around 1gb at idle which is 50% of my current 2gb setup. I currently have 2x1gb of the following:

Now my first thought was just to order another 2 sticks and since they are on a special deal this week this seems so tempting. Then I have other people telling me 4x1gb doesnt run very well and 2x2gb is much better.

Now I know 4x1gb puts more strain on the memory controller but I dont overclock my memory heavily so would I see any benefit selling my current set and buying 2x2gb. I just see this as a hassle, is it really worth while?

Thanks, Sam

I went from 2x1gb to 4x1gb and noticed quite a large performance boost in general. Only went to 2x2gb because i wanted identical looking ram (windowed case) and a good deal came along, otherwise I wouldn't of changed. It'll be cheaper and easier just to get another set, but obviously 2x2gb is slightly better.

It's worth being aware that some motherboards are known for having issues with 4 sticks of memory (my poor 965P DS3 for one). You might get lucky and never ever have a problem - or you may have troubles ever after :S

Interesting I am looking to slot another 2 stick in when i upgrade to 64 bit vista,Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel Kit,,,so am i better to get 2x2
