i have in my machine 2x512 ddr2 Geil 6400, i want 2G.
could i get 2x 512 which would take it up to 2GB using all for slots?I do overclock would this effect the results? thanks

With an intel system you'd probably get away with the 4 x 512MB if it works out cheaper. With an AMD system it'll work although it will force your memory to run at CMD 2T instead of 1T, which is a bit slower.

Ideally get 2 x 1GB and sell your old ram, as you might have problems matching 2 new 512MB sticks with your old ones.

As for the overclocking side of things, filling all the memory slots can limit your overclock.

My mate had 2 x 512MB Sticks of Corsair 3200 Pro.
He then bought another 2 x 512MB Corsair 3200 Pro about a year later.
(Same make/model etc - But different chips on the PCB's)

They WOULD NOT work together. (AMD64 with DFi LANParty mobo)
Even tried with either set and my 3200LL stuff.
(All sorts of timings etc)

Neither worked.

I would suggest the 2 x 1GB sticks as 4 x 512MB may be quite a challenge to get working together.

Capt Fizz has it right. Better safe than sorry. When mixing memory you need to EXACTLY match the ICs and the revision and lot numbers.
