I just read in (some thread on here, lost it now :() that if you use 4 sticks of ram on an A64 system it slows stuff down?

By a noticable amount? A terrible amount? Causes big hanging there doing nothing sessions amount?

Well I don't plan to overclock anything, I dunno what T my ram runs at - it's some crucial 3200 DDR stuff. pretty bog standard afaik.

Having to run 2T instead of 1T will worsen performance.

I'd say especially if you are not planning to overclock not to use 4x512mb. At least if you plan to slightly overclock you can claw back some performance, which is lost. Imo it makes more sense to sell up and start afresh and have less strain on your mem controller too. :)

Does the same go for Intel boards, I've got 4x512mb DDR2 in mine. It certainly speeds up loading Battlefield 2 Maps but I've only seen the comments about slowdown on AMD modos?

Not too sure on that one.... with it being DDR2 and with timings not affecting Intel cpu's as much as Amd's. hmm!
