Anyone got or tried any of the current batch of 5.1 or 7.1 surround sounds wireless headphones for the consoles (360 mainly)?

With having insomnia I'm tempted to get a decent pair to occupy the wee small hours without waking up half the street or having to strain to hear.

Cheers.

I suggest the Turtlebeach Earforce X41.
It's 7.1 dolby surround, wireless, and designed for Xbox 360. My brother has it, and it's amazing.

The only non-amazing thing is the price. :/

Had a look at these and they seem to get some decent write ups, also found a pair for £85 so took a punt :)

Cheers.

One thing to note with the X41's, which a lot of places who review them give mis information about, is that they are 'Dolby Headphone' Headphones.

What this means is they are not 7.1/5.1 with lots of speakers in the headphones, they have one speaker and it is simulated through the RF transmitter.

Having said that, I know people who use the X41's and they are very good!

If you play MP with them just watch out for the feedback the X41's give :p I can usually tell when someones using turtle beaches because you can hear an echo.

Do you get an echo from my constant Sweden bashing?

I don't use the X41's, but I am intrigued to know if you get feedback when I talk.

Had it off Jakes X11's and someone elses X41's before, I might have had it off yours in the past (can't remember) but nothing recently.

The most annoying headset on the market to be frank, the feedback is god awful. When you are using them you are none the wiser but everyone else in the lobby is then subjected to the sound of there own voice at normal volume plus about 1/3.

X41's stay clear (you can get a good set but then you can also get a bad set).

X11's are a great headset but the mic pic up seems to make everyone using them sound as if they are shouting, i.e. drowning out everyone else (yes Jake I'm looking at you mixed with your geordie accent don't help lol)

That's because emulating the effect is a far better way of producing a surround experience. :) X41s wouldn't be my pick though. I'd rather get a quality set of stereo headphones and pair it with an Astro Mix amp or something.

Sticking many tiny speakers into a headset is a bad way of going about it. Stick with a setup that uses Dolby Headphone or equivilent rather than one of the "true 5.1" gimmick sets imo.

Im never touching turtle beaches again, I need to find a replacement. The build quality is crap, the feedback is terrible and the mic is horrible. Avoid.

eek, not filling me with confidence now

The box is sat at home waiting to be opened, I can see an RMA in my future if some of these comments are to be beleived

The build quality is not bad on them.

The real negative is the feedback on the mic. It happens to everyone I know who uses them.

Well I'll give it a blast tonight, if its bad then I'll send e'em back and see if I can get the Razer 5.1's instead.

Mine were ok the first time I got them, except from the annoying high frequency sound that you can hear on quiet games or when there is no sound but then later it developed mic problems. All my friends complain, it is a constant high frequency sound that even when muted still transmits.

I'd for sure choose the Tritton AX180's over the X11's, top notch build quality, sound and great customer service apparently! They are a little bass heavy though. I have some and I like the quality so much I'm going to go for the AX720's in a couple of weeks already, which are apparently much better still!

I think the axpro are better than the 720's or they were when i was looking at reviews a couple of years back when i went and bought mine, they seem to have become mainstream as well, saw them in a high street store for about £130

Indeed, never even noticed those before, they seem that bit more special for not much more cost, the plus side being able to control the volume on all 4 speakers and the sub, so turning that heavy bass down is possible! my next purchase for sure
