I know obviously you can send Dolby Digital/DTS over HDMI from your DVD/Blu-Ray drive to your amplifier. The question is can you output 5.1 from a game over HDMI with an ATI graphics card?
If it is like SPDIF then it is not possible unless the audio chip supports Dolby Digital Live or DTS Connect as these mix the 5.1 into Dolby Digital/DTS from games. I'm not sure about PCM
I'm guessing it would be possible with a nVidia card as you can pass the audio from your motherboard by SPDIF into the graphics card. Then you could use Dolby Digital Live to mix the game output into Dolby Digital and then output it to your amp.
Any idea?
