5.1 headphones

Anyone got any recomendations for 5.1 headphones for use with PS3 for gaming? It would be great if I could use them for blu-ray movies too.

Sony have been making a very good set of headphones with PS3 in mind. These even were developed with Sony gaming division to provide a high quality gaming experience in 7.1. They offer traditional stereo, movie and gaming modes are fully wireless upto 30 metres and use licensced "Vitualphone" patented technology. Working with Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital surround EX, DTS, DTS-ES matrix, discrete DTS-ES, and MPEG-2 AAC.

They however are only sold for the "Japan Market" so very few people on these shores are aware of them or have them.
Can of course be imported.

I have last years models MDR-DS7000 but dont be fooled these are not gimmicky toy headphones but a quality product. I also have Senn HD 600s which yes are better for sheer stereo imagary and detail but the Sonys can provide a much more involving and entertaining soundstage over good stereo headphones. Its a different experience but personally I prefer the Sonys for gaming and movies. Whatever the patented technology used does its much better than say Silent Cinema my Yamaha AV amplifer uses. I highly recommend these.

These Sonys would beat those Astro' overpriced toy cans in the backside, all day, every day of the week!

•Driver unit: 50mm (CCAW voice coil adoption)
•Reproduction bandwidth: 6-25,000Hz
•Power supply: Built-in lithium ion chargeable battery
•Battery life: 13 hours (With fully charged built-in lithium ion chargeable battery)
•Battery life: 4 hours (Built-in lithium ion chargeable battery only charged for 30 minutes. )
•Weight: 325g, processor - 280g
•Decoder: Dolby Digital/Dolby NR professional logic IIx/DTS/DTS-ES/MPEG2 AAC
•Input terminal: optical x2 and light stereo pin jack

The newer MDR-DS7100 model is available at online acutions and good importers. You just need to sort out a mic seperate.
These will set you back about £180-£200 but look, feel and sound are worth the money.

Thank you for that. I have a friend going to HK at the end of the year. I wonder if he will be able to pick them up there? :-?

You should have no problems getting them their.

They will require UK voltage adapters
1x Power Main Base
1x Charge Headphones

I use a couple of cheapo ones cost £2.99 each. Just set them to the voltage required.

i didnt have the budget for some of the sets mentioned in this thread so i picked up a set of PX21's today and im very impressed, ive not tried 5.1 headphones but ive had read many reviews saying there overpriced for the quality, also there is a turtle beach earforce DSS available compatible and its got a very good review but the DSS itself costs more then the headphones and i didnt want to spend that much.
