What's the cheapest you can get these for? It looks like £100 or so. Anything cheaper?

We don't have a 5.1 setup in our house, so I'm quite interested in a set of 5.1 headphones, if they're not hilariously expensive.

His friends (if he has any :p) will hate the feedback though.

Turtle Beach amp (£80) + normal headphones (£39.99), should be good for a cheap alternative to Astros + Mixamp at circa £200.

Just get Turtle beach. X11's or something you can buy them at Game or something for £39.99. I have these there good.
Or if you can budget it get Astro's + Amp.
Personally I'm using my Turtle Beach X11 till the Razer headset comes out.

Will be about £120-£130 and will most likely be the best headset going.
Completely wireless too.

I've had two sets of tb's and both have an annoying low buzzing noise. Also chat on 360 games is random. Some games it works and some it don't. Check out TB website for countless threads about buzzing and chat issue on xbox live!!!!

Avoid 5.1 sets. Get an amp that supports Dolby Headphone and pair it with a decent stereo set.

You wont regret it, 5.1 sets are a gimmick. ;)

What a load of tosh no such thing as 5.1 headphones(it's simulated 5.1 unless you go for really expensive sets which are 3 drivers in each ear think some of the latest ones even have 4 drivers per ear)

suppose you could say it's either 4.2 or 6.2

i used to own an original set of the tutrtle beach and they was amazing on the 360 playing cod4 i could hear player coming up behind me.

....... k

If you actually look at how your ears process directional sound (by hearing the same noise out of phase) you'll see that compared to Dolby Headphone, CMSS 3D etc, they are a gimmick. Go off and google it, seriously.

I've owned several sets of 5.1 headphones, and I always thought they were the dogs danglers until I experienced Dolby Headphone. It's night and day imo.

Of course you'll be able to hear behind yourself, but your kidding yourself thinking that they are close to proper surround though.

TBH probably the best set of gaming headphones i ever had were the turtle beach X2's for the 360 the sound quality on them was outstanding

You are aware that they're Dolby certified because they use Dolby Headphone? Thus proving my point I guess.

Both those pairs of headphones are stereo sets that implement Dolby headphone processing to deliver surround sound through just two speakers. The actual headphones are still stereo sets, regardless of the numbers slapped on to market the processing that goes with them.

When I say 5.1 sets are gimmicks, I was referring to headphones that have more than one speaker per ear, and try to emulate 5.1 that way. If you think these deliver a surround experience better than a stereo set emulating 5.1, you're only kidding yourself.

I've used a pair of X2s. I'm not sure I'd describe them as "outstanding" though. ;)

Say, something like this and a decent set of headphones?

I have some Sony headphones kicking around, which would presumably do the job, yeah?

Yep. Another alternative would be an Astro MixAmp. They're a bit pricier, but better build quality imo. :)

You can use which ever stereo headphones you want with them. You could use your Sony headphones for now and upgrade to whatever you want in the future.
