5.1 Help Please

Hi,

I am in the market for a cheap/decent 5.1 kit, probably spending up to £100.

I would like to link this to my DVD player to play 5.1 films and also to my PC, where I would like to simulate the songs to all 5 speakers, even though the music is not 5.1, as I have heard this can be done.

Please can someone point me in the direction of what I need to get and what features i need to look out for?

im not 100% but isnt that 5.1 upmixing?

Yeah it's just upmixing. This is usually done at the soundcard end. CMSS on Creative cards.

Oh right thanks, so I need to look the CMSS feature on creative cards.

Does this usually come on higher end cards on can it be found on cheaper cards?

I think every card since the SB Live has it.

The HDA Xplosion has upmixing too, through Dolby Digital Live/DTS Connect,. if you prefer digital connection.

wouldnt matter if the sound card had it or not. You can do it in software too.

I have noticed a few 5.1 dvd/surround kits that do this within the DVD player and not in the PC, do you know what this is called, or somewhere I can get one?

sorry, i didnt realise you had replied to this thread. my email notification from ocuk is poor at best lol

anyway, surround sound form 2 channel music. its easy peasy. You can do it with just about any music player as they will all have a surround plugin of some sort. winamp has many to choose from on the winamp site, and foobar2000 has more than a few also
