5.1 help with onboard sound

I have just got a 5.1 system ( nothing brilliant ) and i also have 3 sound ports on the back of my pc. Is there any way i can use this with my onboard sound? As i am having problems its only coming out of 1 speaker?

Can anyone help me with this?

It depends on the spec of the onboard soundcard. Do you know what it is? What model is your Mobo?
