I'm having trouble with my hdmi port on my AMD 280x out putting 5.1 or any sort of high qaulity sound. The only thing I can get it to do is the very basic 2 channel low qaulity.

Im on windows 8, i used to have this same problem on windows 7 and it was still an issue but I could get round it by uninstalling the amd hdmi sound driver.

Right now Im having to use my optical lead but this I believe only does 2 channel in games.

My card is a HIS 280x.

I have tried deleting drivers downloading new ones and tried varius fixes on other forums but cant get anything to work.

Is there an easy fix? Should I try windows 10?

Thanks

have you tried configuring the output from the speaker icon in the btm right?
right mouse/playback devices/default device(whatever you use)/configure/choose your configuration......5.1 hth

Don't think trying Windows 10 would help, but you should install it anyway because it's awesome.

Have you checked the output settings to ensure it's set to 5.1?

Yes been wanting 8 for a while only thing stopping me is my slow internet having to download 300gig of games again with my 3 meg connection.

Yes I'm not even getting any settings just 2 channel low qaulity

I think with my older ATI card, I had to use the Realtek HDMI audio drivers.

Yes think that's the problem my AMD drivers are stopping the realtek ones from working, on windows 7 I use to have to keep uninstalling the amd audio drivers to get hdmi sound working properly.

I don't suppose you know the correct install procedure for me to unistall these ones and install the realtek? Because what im trying aint working.

whats the hdmi plugged into
mine only shows connected to a 2.0 as its a telly,
what progs are you using, games media player etc?

I have it plugged into my panasonic surround sound which does all the good audio like dts hd and dolby digital etc but none are showing up.

Yes just shows 2 channel and in the properties everything is blank doesn't show any of the supported formats.

thanks

I think my problem is the AMD audio driver I need to uninstall it. on windows 7 I use to uninstall this and my sound would work.

I have just tried again tonight to uninstall the driver but I can't seem to uninstall any drivers on windows 8 I just reboot and they are back.

I just went on AMD uninstall everything but it was still there when I reinstalled even though I told it not to reinstall the audio.

Thanks for any advise

EDIT:

Right finally got there was just about to give up.

If anyone else has same problem this is how I fixed it, I know I done it the long way not sure what actually done it but this is what I done.

1. went in the windows settings told it not to update driver automatically
2. uninstalled all of amd
3. reinstalled all of AMD with hdmi driver unticked
4. installed realtek hdmi r270 driver (this stopped my hdmi sound working all together and replaced Amd hdmi audio with realtek hdmi audio)
5. installed realtek 279 audio pack
6. Got latest AMD driver pack and unticked everything apart from hdmi audio driver ( I just installed hdmi audio driver)

I tried this so many times before glad it's working now :)

thanks
