5.1 Problem in Newbuild

I've got an Abit AN-M2 which has onboard 5.1 with SPDIF out. I am getting sound out of the optical link, but my Yamaha receiver only interprets it as stereo or Pro Logic, even from a DVD source that should have 5.1.

The sound test page in the Realtec Sound Manager has 6 speaker setup selected with SPDIF enabled. I am using the latest Realtec HD Sound drivers.

Am I missing something here or should I be able to get Dolby Digital out of a 5.1 compatible chipset???

Nobody here running one of these boards and taking the output through optical to an amp?

Just looking for confirmation that the board will output 5.1.

Other point to make is that this is playing DVDs as files (VIDEO.TS folders) rather than off a disk, but I wouldn't have thought that would make any difference to the audio output?
