Looking for a 5.1 sound system cost upto £200 but can be as cheap as it needs to be. It needs to have at least one optical input, i looked at the logitech Z5400 but think they gonna be way to loud. Are the logitechs any good at low volumes or is it just over kill for a bedroom? If not what should i be looking for?

There's more to sound quality than "how loud it goes" and the volume is adjustable it's no maximum/off. My PC system is far superior to that Logitech pap and it's not overkill at all.

For £200 I would look at stereo only, and even then it's pushing it for quality.

Im not looking for volume thats the point all i seem to see is like 315 RMS way to loud, just dont need the power (for once)!

Amplifier output has nothing to do with maximum dB output, or how it sounds. I have 2kw of power in a room. Can it go loud? Yes. But at normal levels it means the amplifier is not even close to distortion.

In most circumstances a 25W high quality amplifier is sufficient. I very much doubt that Logitech amplifier sections has anywhere near 315W of clear undistorted power. Probably 5W-10W per channel at the very most.

A good quality stereo integrated amplifier will sound better and provide any sensible level you need, as long as the speakers aren't low sensitivity and hard to drive.

Good so can anyone recommend me a 25W (ish ) amp, with optical in ? And speakers just a few suggestions to get me started. Or even a system such as the logitech one I know it aint the best but its only gonna be used for PC and PS3, probably should off mentioned that at first. We got a nice 7.1 one downstairs for movies etc but aint much good for me when im gaming.

I purchased the Yamaha AV59 pack, and for the price it is superb. It can be had for £200 quid. I'll link you to a thread over at AV Forums with lots of info about it plus some alternative buys!

AVFThread!

Hope that helps you a bit, and gives you a few options.

seriously, forget about the "a decent stereo is better than a mediocre 5.1 setup" if you're using your PS3 you're gonna want to take advantage of the immersion that 5.1 can provide. you'd be crazy to spend £200 on sound for your PS3 and not get surround.

Thanks for all your advice and POV's think im gonna side with a 5.1 system, like you said i think i would rather have 5.1 than a slightly better sound. I know when i was playing Doom 3 the sound was the best part of the whole game it worked very well with my current 5.1 setup.
