5.1 Speaker location

Am getting a set of Logitech Z5500's and am mounting the speakers on the wall.

ROOM IS APPROXIMATELY 14ft x 9ft

The black block is a poor attempt at a desk with monitor.

Which wall do I place the front satelittes onto? 1 or 2?

I believe the Z5500's can be wall mounted but cannot be turned at an angle when mounted, only tilted up or down.

Also, it is a victorian house with high ceilings, am I best placing the speakers near the ceiling or half way down the wall?

2, you may want to move the speakers more towards the desk though, if that's the primary use.

I have been told to bring the speakers closer to the monitor else I will get sound "Holes" where I wont hear anything in games for example.

Is this the case?

I was hoping to put the speakers in the corners of the room.

if thats a desk, i would have them closer.

if that was a TV, and you were sitting at the back wall near the rears, i would have said the current position of 2 was ok.

I'dagree with he above but i'd also advise you too experiement stick the speakers in avrious places at different heights and see what happens, I think ideally they need to be a bit closer to the screen and at the same height as your ears when you in the primary listening position

Corners of the room is absolutely the worse place to put speakers, it will cause reflections which alter the sound dramtically. Also 14 feet apart is way too much, it will sound extremely directional with as you said, holes.

Ideally the speakers should be an equliatril triangle from your listening position, so if you sit 6 feet back from the speakers, then the front speakers should be 6 foot apart.

The centre speaker will help 'reduce' the holes, but there is still no good reason for placing speakers in the corners of the room.

Height wise, the speakers should be placed so that the tweeters (or in the case of a full range speaker.. which ever driver is producing the highest frequencys) is positioned at approximatly ear height when sitting. So nowhere near the ceilings it will sound rubbish... 1ft higher than the desk should be about right, a good line of sight unblocked by furniture etc to ensure that the sound isnt being blocked or reflected elsewhere though.

So if you have tall furniture in the way, slightly higher speakers would probably sound better than blocked in speakers.... but thats making a comprimise in sound quality either way.
