Hi guys,

I'll be off to university in september and will be taking my laptop with me.

I lent my dad my 5.1 speakers that i'll re-claim before i go. The speakers have 3 mini jacks green, yellow and black. My laptop only has 2. One mic jack and one headphone jack. Is there anyway to get these speakers to work with my laptop? (a special adapter?) or are these speakers not compatible with my laptop?

Any help is greatly apprieciated

Thanks for that, though im not sure my laptop has a slot for something like that. It has a card reader slot which will read SD's and a pro duo(?) slot too.

Time to dig this one out. Last year i ended up buying an MP3 dock and using the aux in. This year i intend to use the 5.1 and i have virtually no money! is there any other way to get them to work? If i could get a converter to take 3 mini jacks down to one? will that work?

it wouldnt be 5.1 sound it would be 2.1, the rears and centre would be recycling the front speakers output.
there are external sound cards for laptops available not sure on price though

that would be fine, i only intend to use it for music purposes! so if i managed to find a way of getting 3 mini jacks down to one?

Another option would be to take 3 x3.5mm jacks to 2x phono and then 2xphono to 1.x3.5mm jack.

Anybody know anywhere where i can buy such cables?
