I want to replace my current surround speakers, which never worked properly. They're Edifier R251T speakers (only cost me £35), satellites are all 2.3W, subwoofer 15W. It's been perfectly loud enough, but the volume and bass control is on the subwoofer which is in the corner of the room. Also, no easy way to connect headphones, unless I connect a splitter in the back of the PC, and walk over to turn the volume down on the sub-woofer.
So I thought of upgrading. The obvious choice is the Logitech Z506, priced at about £75 out here, which have 2x8W front, 16W centre, 2x8W rear, and 27W subwoofer. They also have a controller on one of the satellite speakers, and a headphone input. However, the Logitech site here in China say these have been discontinued.
The only Logitech surround sound speakers I can currently buy out here is the Z906. Not only are these a lot more expensive (£280), but these have a total RMS of 500W !!! Satellites are 67W each and subwoofer is 165W! I live in an apartment block and the floors and ceiling carry noise. So I'm not sure these speakers will be suitable, could really be overkill.
So I'm looking for a system similar to the Logitech Z506, which has a headphone connection and remote volume control. I will be using the speakers for listening to music during the day, watching DVD/Bluray movies and gaming on my PC.
I might be able to get a Logitech Z506 out here, but on Taobao, which is like Chinese Ebay. There are very few, and I've heard some reliability problems, so I would rather buy a system from a proper retailer such as Amazon.cn or Newegg.cn, which means I wouldn't be able to go for the Z506, and would have to go for another system. Any suggestions? Anyone heard of Logitech replacing their low-end surround sound speakers?
