Hi,
Does anyone know a fairly cheap surround sound system that has optical in?
ideally looking at around £40-£80.
If it's not possible to get a decent system with optical in, Am i able to just plug the red and white cable from the xbox 360 into it? the cable has blue green red and white red yellow

xfi extream audio pci e, has optical in. getting it to work correctly would be another issue however..

or if you use the red and white option, you would need to use an adapter to change 2 to 1 so it can then plug into the line in port.

i don't mean a 5.1 sound card i mean a 5.1 surround system. with that would i not be able to plug the red and white stright in? or even optical if there's a fairly cheap system with optical.

You could plug the red and white in but you'd only get stereo.

For that price I don't think you'll be able to find a decent 5.1 setup, let alone decent 5.1 with optical.

I thnk your best bet is a 2 Speaker configuration for £80. The speakers will be substantially better quality than 5.1 ones for the same price and you can just use the Red and White wires. Good stereo speakers are far more immersive than rubbish 5.1 speakers.

Argos did do a pretty decent 5.1 setup with optical in....Acoustic Solutions DS533 it's called. In fact, I have one myself. Not sure if they still make it....was about £100 4 years ago.
