Hey guys,

I'm in the market for a new speaker setup...

I'm currently using an aging 7.1 creative setup. It's been great but I don't think I've really ever sent the full benefits of 7.1; all the speakers are in front of me, no further than 20cm apart from each other! Still, the sound quality and the effects in games have been awesome and I don't want to lose that.

It'll be nice to get some of my desk space back by going to a 5.1 setup (if that's what I decide on?) but is that really necessary? There seem to be a lot of nice 2.1 setups around these days?

I literally only use my pc speakers for gaming and music. In the rarest of occasions I might watch a film, very rarely though :)

What do you think?

5.1 is all well and good as long as you can get the speakers set up right, ie behind you and not on the desk.

Personally, unless you have a dedicated games room, or area where you can exploit 5.1 correctly, 2.1 is the best option (especially for you if you listen to music). For surround in games, get a decent headset, like a Turtle Beach or similar.

Plus 2.1 IMO looks a hell of a lot cleaner, especially with some lovely beefy speakers. :)

Sound advice! Have you got any recommendations for a have decent 2.1 setup? I don't really want to go too mad :p

The Logitech X210's seem to get pretty good reviews on the net? Ocuk don't do them but lots of the other big names do. They retail for about £40.

No idea, I'm looking at making the change myself! Currently using a set of Logitech 5.1 speakers with only the front ones connected.

I think I'm going to get myself a set of Bose Companion 3 or similar. I'd like something that can switch to my headset easily (optical in).

I haven't really thought about a budget yet but I'm thinking it'll be around the £100 mark... I don't think I won't to go too much over that, not just for some 2.1's ;)

Sam I'm selling some Logitech Z906 5.1 Surround Sound Speaker System - 500W RMS THX Certified (Brand New Unopened) if you are interested mate. They are currently Logitech's latest 5.1 top of their range speakers, check the link below more details there and what im charging for them.

If you game or watch movies get 5.1, if you only listen to music get 2.1 mate will save you the desk space then.
