£5/600 upgrade?

Hey all. Thinking of an upgrade and case change at the same time. Current cast is too wide for my desk and looking at moving into a Fractal R5 or similar for silence.

Current spec is.

Coolermaster Haf XB
Asus ROG Gene v M-ATX
3570k@ 4600mhz
8gb Geil legarra evo
Gigabyte 280x windforce 1100mhz
samsung 830 120gb ssd
ocz vertex 2e 120gb ssd
500gb storage drive
Noctua D14
Corsair hx520w psu.

Thinking the base stuff is ok so looking at graphics, case and psu upgrade, maybe ssd too for £5/600?

Suggestion on the best bits to buy please!
 
What sort of case did you want? small again or a tower? might be easiest for you to pick one.

You are right about the base stuff being fine.

Thanks stulid. Is the 290x a big leap over the 280x and better than the new nvidia stuff?

Case wise I Just want quiet as posslbe and fit into a (H*W*D) 580 x 330 x 650 space.

Ill look into that case now.
 
The GTX980 is still faster, but with the end coming for the 290/290X their prices are lower and getting lower as the 300 series is due around june so maybe wait for that.

The PSU that comes in that case bundle is a Seasonic OEM, so decent.

A GTX970 is the same speed as a 290X.
 
I would get case/PSU/SSD etc now and leave the GPU until the R9 3XX series comes out to see what's on offer. The 280X is still a strong card and should tide you over until then :)
However, that 290X is pretty unbeatable value atm as 290X prices seem to be falling and we never know whether something with that performance will be available at that price :) so up to you whether to wait
 
I went from a 7870 to a 280x and felt like I made a sidestep, In hindsight I did. Any firm data on the new amd cards?
 
Also in addition to what I said.

Only two of the 300 series are rumoured to be all new cards, the 290X may get rebranded into a 380X for example but then cost you more money for the privilege;)

Not really no, but likely in the next 3 months

The 280X to 290X is still a significant upgrade, and when the new cards come out the deals like these 290Xs may well be gone!
 
What resolution do you game at? 1440P and a 290X will be fine:) 1080P and you are laughing.

I have obviously had first hand experience with a 280X and a 290 and a 290X so know what im talking about;)
