Hi guys,

The GF has an apple mac and i have a PC and we wanted to use 1 keyboard and mouse for both. i've picked up and installed a KVM switch but i'm only getting 3 buttons on the mouse, the 2 side buttons aren't working, help!

I'm on Windows 7 64bit and the KVM is a NEWlink Micro USB.

microsoft intellimouse optical 1.0a usb.

Initially when plugging the KVM switch in it installed both keyboard and mouse as "HID compliant USB", or something similar, so i forced the installation of the correct driver and its smoothed out mouse movement to where it was before but i'm still minus these 2 buttons.

I'm starting to think that where the KVM switch, when you're switched AWAY from a machine, has to emulate a "plugged in" mouse it may not be able to simulate all mouse buttons. This sound reasonable?

Yep it might be the KVM switch itself but then another thought would be the driver/software.

Not sure if this mouse has anything like the SetPoint from Logitech where you can assign any of the buttons to any others ? If yes can you try and see if it detects all the extra buttons in the software and can you set it up there ( ie, 4th or 5th button as scroll up etc ).

ahh haaa.. i've had a look in program files at the intellipoint software and it does have a little app which shows you what buttons are depressed and which aren't and it definitely isn't reading anything when i press buttons 4&5.

so it looks like it might be the kvm switch unless you've got any other suggestions?

Pretty sure this will be the KVM switch. I don't think there will be much you can do about it.
