Too long?

Want a lazy more history filled longer weekend.

Cheap food, beer, wine, acropolis.

Worth it or a pollution hell hole.

Looking at flights from Stockholm and it's easy and on our shortlist too so?

Recommended or meh.

I went for five days in October during Covid.
I enjoyed it, but five days is probably more than enough. Food is good (and cheap compared to Sweden at least) beer is good, and there are lots of antiquities to see.

I reckon 3-4 days is sufficient, same as for most big cities really.

In general Athens is noisy, crowded and dirty/in disrepair, but I didn't really mind that.

I’d say 5 days is too long
I’m going in June and also went about 5 years ago
3 days is enough to do the sights
If you have extra time, consider a day trip to Delphi
Do the Acropolis Museum, it’s really good
The other museum (the archaeological one) is very good as well
The airport is a long way out so consider pre booking a transfer
I'd recommend getting accommodation as central as you can

I happen to live in Greece, couple of hours from Athens, 3 days in Athens is about right, and a day trip to perhaps Corinth or Mycenae (or both is ideal) to add in for some ancient history. Alternatively 3 days in Athens, and 2 in Nafplio, which is a fantastic Venetian styled town in the Peloponnese, you get the Ktel bus from Kifissos bus station in Athens and it is about 2 hours. well worth it.

I do have a YouTube channel with guides to Athens, Nafplio and the Peloponnese etc. I don't think I am allowed to link it here but have a look for Greece Explored.
