Hey all, just talking to some people at uni now and they have aroudn £5 a week to spend on food to keep them going, just wanted to see what people would spend £5 on here to last them through a week. So far I come up with:

20 Sausages £2
3 Jars Pasta Sauce £1 (2 meals per jar)
2 Packs Pasta £2

But this is rather bland!

Wow, that's not much. I spend around £45 a week on food, this is my walk round morrisons:

Peppers, lettuce, mushrooms, broccoli, apples, potato, carrots, whole grain bread, 12 eggs, a small sirloin steak, plenty of chicken breasts and portions, ham, yoghurts, pasta sauce, whole grain pasta.

I don't know how you'd cope, because that usually only lasts me about 5 days! :p

I could not do that! Especially as our local shop is the Co-op and is the most expensive place known to man :(

value pasta loads of veg for a sauce. jackets pots to have with sauce. rice to have with sauce. lentils to make a curry.
vegie shepherds pie made with the sauce and lentils!!

Ive just spent around £50 on a weeks shopping but thats only because im on a high fat\high protein\low carb diet and unfortunately good none carb food is pricy :(

I used to do this at uni - £5 a week on food and ended up very malnourished. I got tonsilitis three times in the first year.

Good luck.

I used to live on £7 a week at uni. I couldnt justify spending less on alcohol. Netto was my friend. :)

2 bags of mince (£1.50 each)
3 packs of spagetti or pasta (19p each)
5 tins of tomatoes (9p each)
Gravy granuals (cant remember)
Tomato puree (about 20p)

= Spagetti Bolognase many times.

I would also invest in cheap white bread, butter and some cheap jam for breakfast.

Tesco value frozen mince, it's about a pound.
Big bag of rice or pasta.
Value chopped tomatoes
value bread
value butter
value jam

I can live off of about £15 a week. I could cut it down easily if I made more stuff from scratch. Always buy ready made pasta sauces, avoid value food (of most things)
I always buy decent bread :p

I could never forgive myself if I was only willing to spend a fiver on my food for a week.
Mianus would not forgive me and I'd only do this starvation technique if I wanted to lose weight super fast.
That diet is terribly unhealthy but as per thread here's my attempt :
1kg pasta
1kg rice
1kg lentils
£1 worth of baked beans
£1 of dirty cheap bread.
Anything leftover goes on slop to make sauce with.

Respect yourself enough to spend what it takes to eat your fill everyday.

£5 a day is hard enough. £5 a week is just unnecessary! Edit: I am a student too!

£60 minimum on my food intake per week rising to £100 at most (normally due to a bottle of wine and a few packs of cigarrettes). I like to eat fresh food and fresh fruit. Moreover I'd rather be able to find somewhere with equivalently cheap alcohol so at least when I come round the next day I'll know I can make myself a top notch breakfast at the very least.
I would never wish this kind of diet or starvation upon anyone in a country like ours.
