5 Generations of Core i7 Processors: 2600K, 3770K, 4770K, 5775C & 6700K Gaming Comparison

Intel offer nothing over any of the i7 chips since Sandybridge unless you CBA overclocking.

I've got a 2500K that will do at least 4900Mhz and maybe a few hundred Mhz over that. I'm pretty sure that would be a match for any Z170 chip.

Barring a catastrophic failure that meant I lost the CPU, board and memory I see zero reasons to upgrade to any Intel chip and thats forgiving Intel's current pricing. Even then I would just by an AM2 A88X board and APU while waiting for AM4 and Zen.

So that you could pay more for a CPU that has no gain over any other chip intel has released in recent times?

no, because it worked out cheaper then the quads :). I got the black friday deal . Besides if the 5820k is similar performance to that say of a 6700k but has two extra cores which are helpful for other things, why not?

Sounds like a good enough reason to me. Looks like in this particular test, skylake had nothing on haswell, so moar haswell cores looks like a safe bet.

There being no reason to spend money on CPU upgrades is fine with me. Let's hope AMD take full advantage of the situation to close the performance gap.

many tasks can be completed a lot quicker. this is where the extra bit of power makes the difference.

not everything is about fps.

think of how often you use your pc. if you on it daily.newer gear makes for a more pleasurable experience.:)

The low end has certainly experienced more of an increase than the high end, especially when taking IGPs and DXVA2 into account. A modern Celeron or Pentium for an office PC or whatever makes for a much more pleasant experience than an old Core 2 or similar, particularly when combined with an SSD.
