Morning

As title suggested, had 5 pints of 5% lager last night, last one about 10.30pm

I need to go out in about an hour, 10am... would i be ok to drive or not? If its borderline, I'll walk!

Cheers

If you personally think you might be borderline, just walk. Beats being pulled over by the police for a routine check and them smelling alcohol on you lol.

Well it all depends what time you had every pint and it usually takes 1 hour to get rid of 1 unit of alcohol 30 minutes after drinking.

So a pint of 5% beer is approx 3 units. So you had 15 untis all in. Now assuming you nailed 5 pints at 10.30pm they would then be in your system by 11.00pm.

You will still have 4 units in your system, thus making you over the limit.

However I'm betting you started drinking earlier, allowing more time for the units to be digested.

You will probably be ok but unless you can remember the exact time of every drink it will be hard to be 100% accurate.

If you're feeling borderline enough to have to ask then you're probably not good to drive just yet. Give it another hour or two and see how you feel.

If I were you I'd walk. There are random checkpoints everywhere.

Jokes aside why risk it even if there's just a slight chance, Just get a Taxi.

SO all of these were drank over the space of 5 hours. So in theory you can knock 5 units of the total basically making you 0 units now.

However it does vary from person to person as you get testing for alcohol based on blood alcohol level which means generally anything over 2 units in your system is a fail.

You should be fine now but only if you feel OK to drive. Like others have said, have a good brekky and you'll be sorted!

Just a tip for anyone trying to work out how many units they've had - the percentage alcohol is how many units there are in a litre of that beverage. In this case 5% = 5 units per litre. You had almost three litres so just short of 15 units as mentioned. That's the factual part done. The problem is there's no telling how quickly you will metabolise the alcohol, so leaving one hour per unit at the point where you stop drinking is the only way to be fairly sure.

This is the whole problem with the over the limit in the morning ..... how do you know , you just have to guess :(

Get a breathalyser if you go out regularly for drinks so that you know where you're at the next day. :)

Belmit has one, and I remember a group of us had a go after a night, we had had different amounts to drink, but some of us were over the limit, some were under and some were borderline. Within an hour some of us were still over the limit, some were now under. It really does depend on your metabolism as well.
