Hi Guys,

I really want to upgrade the sound system in my E60 but havent got a clue how to go about it.

Car currently has the standard system with Professional Navigation

I only want to upgrade the speakers, and potentially add an amp as I dont think the standard head unit will have the drive.

I want everything in the car, head unit, Idrive to function the same but just with improved sound.

ANy help would be much appreciated. Im also a noob, so would need to take the car somewhere to get this all fitted.

Budget wise around £500.

Thanks in Advance.

P.S: I've read the forum over at TyreSmoke and they have a thread on this, but its a DIY job and goes way over my head :)

Its not an easy job to upgrade the standard stereo in the E60 as it doesn't come with an external amp of anywhere to plug one into. The speakers under the front seats are also wired in parallel with the door speakers and produce full range sound instead of being subs like the HiFi and Logic 7 options. There are also no tweeters fitted as standard. You can get these http://www.bluespot.co.uk/shop-online.aspx/pnp-amplifier which with the adapter harness plug straight into the back of the iDrive unit to amplify the sound to the speakers. Then the next option is to add tweeters from the HiFi option to the existing mids (they just plug in), i think they are about £40 each but im not 100% on that. Also you can replace the under seat speakers with Earthquake SWS-8 subs but you need to import them from the states. None of the options are cheap really. This thread should help you.

If you not going to do it youself your better off asking a few car audio companies what they will be able to do for you within your budget. I don't think youll get very far with 500 once you add labour costs into it though.

I've read that forum and it all seems quite difficult for me to do it myself.. :(
Have you by anychance done what they suggested on the thread you linked?
