5 year old speakers+x-fi, up to it??

I have an audigy2zs at the moment powering a set of Cambridge soundworks 5.1 dtt3500 digital speakers which are about 5years old now. I remember when I bought them they were top spec and believe it or not cost nearly £300, they have eax dolby digital digital din/optical etc, but im thinking of getting an x-fi and wondering if these speakers would be ok mixing old tech/new tech or would they hold back the xfi's capabilities to some extent,??. just wondering how much speakers have improved over the last 5 years..
