50% CPU on Vista64 Boot

Has anyone else had this problem?..

Booting up my system (laptop in Siggy) and immediatly it ramps 'explorer.exe' up to 46-58% and stays there for ages!... but if I stop the process and restart it, it comes back on at 8-12% idle... :confused:

Its having a knock on effect making the whole system slow and sluggish (this is a P8400 with 4Gb RAM and a 64bit OS were talking about!!)...

I've ran Malwarebytes, Adaware and Spybot and none have found a single problem!...

Does anyone know what might be causing it?... has anyone else experienced this problem with Vista64 (SP2)??...

I don't want to have to re-install Vista from Scratch

Is it the original manufacturer install or a fresh one? Are there any obvious third party shell extensions running?

Its the original HP install with SP2 update, only Rocket Dock as an extra, nowt else!. I've even had a look and tweaked the 'Startup' programs, but can't see anything apart from Avast AV, the Fingerprint reader software and AnyDVD-HD (which I need for my Multiregion dvd playback!).

Didn't really want to do a fresh install (got Vista64-SP2 from Technet when we all had access last month)... but I suppose its looking that way!..

Hmm, suppose RocketDock could be the problem but if you're on the original install then I would seriously consider a fresh one. I've had various weird problems (locking up when inserting a USB stick, very slow file operations and other quirkies of no obvious origin) with three different models of new HP business PCs in the past few weeks and each and every time a fresh install of Windows has fixed the problem and they've been running fine ever since.

I'm sure some others would be wanting to 'sort things' before considering a format and new install...

I would just throw any files i needed onto some kind of media/drive and start again. Install as windows is was supposed to be installed, not how some third party has changed things

Sort of Sorted it!...

I had iTunes installed (I know Shoot me!!

) and this in turn installs something called 'Bonjour'..

Well I uninstalled iTunes (I use Winamp to shove music to my iPod anyway) and then uninstalled this 'Bonjour' thing (which I believe is a communications process for iTunes, and I've heard can sometimes cause problems), re-booted and the 'Bonjour' service was still there and my CPU (explorer.exe) was at 50%, so popped into 'msconfig' and dissabled it from startup, rebooted... Sorted... No 'Bonjour' and CPU at 5% :cool:

Still might do a fresh install at some point, but I don't have the time at the mo to Faff and get it to how I want it!!..

So the Morel of this story!... DON'T INSTALL ITUNES AS STEVE JOBS HAS BOOBY TRAPPED IT FOR NON APPLE USERS!!..
