Low budget I know, but I have a mate doing a cheap upgrade, whats my best bet for around the £50 mark?

Noticed the OCUK 8600GT for £76 but not sure if he can stretch that :(

As he's on AGP (IIRC 9800 series dont come in PCI-E), I'd advise looking around for perhaps a second hand x800/x850 series, 6800GT,x1650 series or even a x1950pro.

Unfortunately due to the almost discontinuation of AGP cards, with a small budget you'd have trouble finding anything really that decent, unless you go second hand.

Go second hand, you'll get a much better deal :)

You should hang around here in General Discussion (or wherever else interests you) and get your posts up to 250, then you'll get members market access where you can get some good bargains :D

IIRC an X850 (or was it an x800) went there for £35 not long ago, which are very similar scoring cards to a 7600GT, depending on which x800 you get of course. For £50 he might actually find himself a reasonable card.

Well he's decided to go for the 8600GT, his pockets were a little deeper than he first thought I guess :p

Strange how often that can happen when buying components !!!

Can he stretch to the 7600GT? It's a really good card, and all for only £66. :)

Sixty odd quid can buy you a second hand x1800xt or 7900gs from the MM, both of which are better than the 7600gt.

edit: just seen the 8600gt post. but the x1800xt will still outperform the 8600gt, not sure about the 7900gs.
