After a decent 50" TV. Budget £700.

No idea where to start, except i went into Currys and saw a nice Panasonic for just under my budget. Cant remember the model details though.

Any help would be appreciated

Panasonic GX800 is under £700 now. I bought just after launch when it was £800. Good TV. Decent picture. Lots of features inc DolbyVision. Only downside is the narrow viewing angle before colour saturation changes.

I think it's worth upping the budget by a few hundred. You will not only get a 55" you will also get something with FALD and much better HDR.

Those features are well worth paying the extra money for.

I know where does it stop but certainly your on the cusp of getting a much better tv for not a lot more.

LG 55SM8200PLA in Currys at the moment for £699.
It's 55" though.

I got one two weeks ago and it is a fantastic TV. I could not be happier with it!
Using it for Sky TV, UHD on Amazon Prime and PS4 Pro. It's fantastic.

is the XG95 not on par with the XF90 which he could get 55" version for around £899 iirc.

The xg95 is marginally better, i looked for the 49" xf90 but out of stock everywhere so assumed itsvbeen discontinued. If can fit a 55" £899 is an excellent price.

i got an email direct from sony iirc for the xf90 for £899 for 55".

i assumed those marginal differences were so minor they were practically equal. like it was changes to the design of the feet, etc.

I got a Samsung 55" RU7400 for £600 a month ago. Very pleased with it.

You can get it in a 50" for cheaper.

I got a 50" ru7410 for £450 and I'm happy with it for general TV watching.

Sorry to hijack the thread slightly, but how is the motion on these TVs for movies?

One thing that has always irked me about the cheaper Samsung TVs over the years was the motion was usually quite blurry despite whatever motion settings were used/disabled.

Shame, the step up in panel quality from £700 to £900 is huge.
+1

I already said before. But just to emphasise the difference.

£700 will get you a mediocre TV with no real HDR and with horrible backlight bleed and blooming, etc.

£900 will get you not only a bigger tv but a lot better. to simplify this further.

£700 = 6/10 tv
£900 = 9.5/10 tv

it's that big a jump

I think it's funny that if you go £200 the other way with a £500 TV you likely won't notice much of a difference vs the £700 TV.

But yeah I 100% agree with your summary there.

Its because they are all edge lit panels, cant do much to improve those drawbacks.

Yeah, I don't think I could go back to edge lit ever again. My g sync ultrawide monitor is the only edge lit device I have left in my house but won't be replacing that for a few years yet!

I'd say more like
700 = 4/10
900 = 8/10
1300 = 9.5/10

The XF90 is a solid 8/10.

To the op.@700 just fill a memory stick with some sdr, hd and HDR content clear a Saturday afternoon and head to Curry's just choose the best panel in your view as at that level they will all be edge lit lcds.

@koolpc
Where abouts in Wales are you? if in Cardiff go to Richer Sounds.
