Any help with this?

Will be used for office/internet etc but wont be upgraded for 8 + years.

Nothing to salvage from old machine, its around 11 years old. No need for gfx card as onboard will be fine.

Not happy with the motherboard, but maybe you guys can help, no need for another drive as they had a 60 odd GB drive for 11 years and used 8gb (inc OS!)

Was going for best power for long term solution but a i3 might be better, closer to £500 the better.

Monitor might not be required but will see.

thanks

This leaves room to upgrade the processor when the price of Ivys come down, however it is a very capable processor. Also, used the OcUK Media Case as it is a good size for whoever "they" are and can just put a monitor on top of the PC. This also leaves some budget for a monitor.

Also, bear in mind that Windows 8 comes out October 26th, if you really care as Windows 7 is a very capable and probably better for the moment (familiar interface).

I'd opt for a larger SSD though, the 120GB Sandisk Ultra is also great value. Considering the size of a modern operating system 60GB just doesn't cut it.

Windows 7 takes up less than 20GB, and the OP states that less than 8GB of the old drive was used. However you do make a good point, some of the other larger SSDs are better values, but to keep the price down I kept the SSD as simple as I would go.

Edit: Windows 7 only requires 20GB to install.

He clearly says this isn't going to be upgraded for a long time, so I'd stick with the quad core rather than upgrading when ivy gets cheaper as has been suggested.

yeah, its going to be a good few years before an upgrade. They are family friends but im wary of ensuring they will have something really good for 5+ years and not start having issues in 2-3 years with speed.

The 90GB SSD is as much as they will need, they really dont eat into space.

Any luck with the motherboard guys?
