Been looking into building a PC but was wondering if its possible with a budget of say £500-£600 to build a machine that would run Armed Assault II well?

Not including Monitor, mouse or OS, but could do with a new keyboard,

Yes, although you would have to buy into the soon to be retired Core 2 platform. Nothing wrong with Core 2, it's an awesome platform and will be good for another few years. The setup below will destroy just about any game currently out. The Q9450 should overclock happily to 3.2GHz (400*8) on that mobo with a 1600FSB then you'll be flying ;)

Meh.!

you do know you will need a cpu cooler with that OEM cpu, and you are already over budget....

and he would have to overclock to get the same STOCK speed as my cpu :p
And half the HDD space lol

Cheers folks, I think I would be more likely to go down the AMD route to be honest, if I was to go Intel I think I would probably save some cash to get an i7 or i9 cpu in the hope it could be upgraded later.
You say that Core 2 is going to be retired, how long do you think that for example that setup there would still be capable?

If you going for AMD, go for this setup.

  • Don't skimp on the PSU, 520W Coolermaster is ideal wattage and good quality
  • The 7200.12 Barracuda drivers are single platter meaning better performance than the WD Caviar drives
  • 4890 obviously better GPU than the 4870
  • Antec make awesome cases and the 300 is no exception (Check out all the reviews)
  • OCZ Alchemy is a sound keyboard

You say that Core 2 is going to be retired, how long do you think that for example that setup there would still be capable?

Couple years at least. Until massively mutli threaded gaming kicks in, Core 2 Quads will be sufficient. The 4890 is ATI's current flagship GPU (RV790) so that will remain a solid performer for another 12 months atleast!

Cheers guys, I think I will be ordering one of the AMD setups this weekend!
Although would I get a much better spec for say £800 or maybe even £1000?

Gone for a lesser cpu but you wont notice the 4th core in games.
Also you may be able to unlock the 4th core & you will certainly be able to clock it to 955 levels.

Speced a 4890 that dosent sound like a hairdryer & a case that dosent feel like it was bulit by the tech department of a special school.
