I spend a fair bit of time on the train so I am considering getting a laptop. I have been watching the Dell Outlet waiting for something like an xps 17 but is there anything else I should consider for this price?

Hi there.

As you are on the train then you really want a 14" since even with a table a 17" is quite a space killer. End up in standard non-table seating and you probably won't even be able to get it out. A 15" on a train is just about do-able. I have a 13" and that is comfy.

So that just about kills the idea of a gaming laptop in budget.

No great offers on new XPS17s atm so if you think you see a goodun on the outlet and it is well specced, and you think you will find the space on the train then go for it. Just make sure you get the 9 cell battery.

Not much else in this price bracket with a GT555 graphics or above worth looking at.

I would consider the UK Clevo systems for £600 though. Either the Enigma III or Optimus II.

S547ZDTTZ5ZRLV gets you £20 off the outlet.

Have just purchased an XPSL702x fitted with an I5 2430m, 4Gb ram 500Gb hdd and gt550m with 1600x900 res. This was £450 with vat and delivery.

to be really honest, if you get a desktop, those games will be easily playable, if u really need a laptop then i will wait for ivy bridge since skyrim bottlenecked by cpu

Why do people always suggest this? He asked for a laptop, suggesting he gets a desktop is about as useful as saying to invest it in cows.

My old Dell M1710 with 4GB and GTX 7950 runs Skyrim surprisingly well in 1920X1200. You can get them for a good price now too ;)

What's the chances of me picking one up for that price, can't find them anywhere!

I'm looking at getting a AW 11x R3. Tidy little laptop, will fit in my bag nicely, and if you're using it on the train etc, you don't really want a hulking mass of a laptop to whip out.

There is one on the outlet at the moment, except it's 8GB of ram and a 2nd HDD with 500gb of space. Extra £200 compared to the price you got though!

Guess I need keep an eye out for the 4GB models.
