£500 - £600 overclocking spec ?

mates going to uni in a few months hes going to be using lightwave 3d etc needs a decent pc but also wants to overclock it whats his best options.

PS. ive been out of the scene for a while now. look @ sig

thanks. are these phenoms better than intel now or ? how do they compare to quad core intels ?
 
AMD produce some fine chips. After a couple of years where Intel kicked their backside they are now competitive again, and best of all they have chopped their prices. Intel still hold the performance crown with their i7 series but below this AMD's phenoms are similar to Intel's equivalents.

So if money is no object buy an i7 rig, if you want VFM go for a Phenom solution.
