hi all,

I have enjoyed my Asus TUF 15 (FA506IHR) laptop which I have used for general use and middling gaming but I'm not obsessed about top of range stuff. Hence owning an Asus Tuf 15 Laptop.

Sadly, it seems to be struggling with it's network adapter (Keeps vanishing from Device Manager, along with Bluetooth - weird?) so I am considering an upgrade.

Quite happy with refurbed, have used Laptops Direct in the past etc.

for a similar price point, are there any standout options around at the moment. I've been coping ok with the GTX 1650 but a bit of an upgrade would be nice!

Thanks all

As fluffy says just replace the network card (The card does both wifi and bluetooth). £20 and 20 mins all should be sorted.

A Intel ax210 should replace the mediatek one you currently have. Just be careful with the ariel connectors they are tiny & fragile. It maybe located under the SSD. - Remember to get drivers downloaded first.

The 1650 is comparable to the mid range integrated gpus such as the 8840hs or newer core ultra intel chips - which both save a huge amount on power+heat, so really you'd be after a 4060 or similar for a upgrade. I think you will struggle to around 5-600, however 2nd hand units around 700 are available, however that's a lot to spend when your existing system can likely be brought back to life.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Yes, if I could 'fix' the issue that would do me - I believe the ASUS TUF series are quite easy to work on, I've taken the chasis apart before just to see what the score was with expansion, and basically as I am a bit nosey.

Is it quite a simple fix then in your opinions?

Not going to come for you if I blow it up or anything, but I came to these forums as I know many of you guys really know what you are talking about and have no agenda!

Thanks. Interesting.

EDIT: According to this, seems easy enough.

It appears you are not alone with the intermittent issues with that generations TUF wifi.

Not your exact model - although I expect it's similar, you can probably find a clearer video for dealing with the antenna as that is a universal thing.

A very straight forward & cheap job. Good lighting & disconnect the battery first, you will be fine and you can beat your chest in a manly manner after.
May as well very carefully clean your fans whilst it's open.

Hi guys, Just wanted to pop back and say thanks.

I bought the Intel AX210 card and all seemed fine until I couldn't get one of the antennas back on! I think I forced it and bent the TINY little connector. Ho-hum.

Bought some replacement internal antennas and was MUCH more careful. CLICK and it seemed to go on fine.

Since then, no disconnects, Wifi seems stronger too and Bluetooth has been rock solid which has freed up a USB slot.

So, Thanks very much.

I'm annoyed I haven't been able to justify buying a new laptop though! Damn you all!
