£500 av amp

I paid £635 for an onkyo 876 last week.

Who cars that its ugly its audio equipment I look at my tv not my amp:D

I don't think anyone cares what it looks like or what you paid for it. The initial thread is as listed. Since when is £635 less than £500.
There are criteria on the table and whilst opinion is good is is reasonable to ask to be constructive and not flame.
Does your Amplifier suggestion fall into the sub £500 bracket? No.
Did you tell the initial thread creator what was in your opinion the reason for your purchase? No.
Did you give a valid reason for paying that much for the Amplifier? No
It is easy to get carried away when someone makes a comment about your setup but don't you think in these circumstances that they have a point.
I am not criticising your setup and you most probably enjoy it, but that is the point of the forum to tell people what you enjoy about your setup which you find is unique to you and in the correct circumstances to give a valid opinion on the forum when apropriate.
I may be Biased in some ways but I have a Yamaha DSP-AX563 and a DSP763. And I give my valid experienced opinions based on those subjects and previous systems. You sound a bit like a spoilt child who cannot have his own way.

when you've got down from your high horse you may realise that mattyg may have been making a point about what kind of amps can be had for a little more budget. The OP may have wanted to stretch a little more for a slightly better amp.

and while you mention 'flame'... i think you've done a pretty good job at that yourself while adding nothing to the thread!

I don't mean to enflame or anger anyone let's make that plain. I just read a Thread and I notice that the person whom has starte it begun by saying he needed an AV Amp for under £500 and later in the thread he was also looking to perhaps upgrade his PC sound as well.
With the Yamaha, Onkyo and Denon going at around £300 he could then think about the sort of extra's he would like for his PC.

Just following logic.

Its a bit like one of those salesmen that always gets up your nose. He asks you how much you have got to spend and they always suggest something that is out of your price range.

P.S. If anyone takes offence please disregard.

Spoilt child. Glass houses an all that
Maybe you should read the post a little slower

My point actually was that the 876 was £1000 and May well in a few more weeks be had for not far off £500.

No-one has said anything about my setup so you obviously didnt read the thread. If you had you would also have spotted that other posts mention >£500 equipment. Why pick on icckle old me.:D

The op Mentioned a £500 amp not that that was his max budget so whilst people are suggesting £300 amps that are £200 under I thought I'd throw one in at £135 above.

I apologize for stepping on your trainset:rolleyes:

To be fair there isn't much at £500.

£300 is you Yam 763s, Onkyo 606s and Denon 1909s.

Then you get to 600-700 as the next step. There isn't really a £500 range.

Exactly why I had to go for the onkyo 876 especially with 2 hdmi outs ready for the projector.

for the last 10 yrs I've been using 2nd hand yamaha's good but not as good as the new one.

Ive seen the Yammy 863 at £489, i was considering that amp myself but went for the Denon AVR1909 as it suits my needs perfectly and sounds superb.

If you want an 863 right now I think you'd have to pay a premium. For £500 it's a waiting game because of availability. This is taken from a well known sellers site;

Out of Stock. Unfortunately anticipated delivery date is late January 2009. If you would like to join our waiting list for this product, please go ahead and order. We do not take payment until we send you the goods. You will find this product very difficult to source, therefore it is best to be on someone's waiting list! You can cancel at anytime if you get one elsewhere.

got a problem lol, i have just seen the specs of the onkyo 606 :| how would this compare to the Pioneer VSX1018AH?

i can get the onkyo for £339 which includes a free 2m QED HDMI lead (whoopee :D ) can collect this locally

or the pioneer for £399 delivered.

i really do hate choice and a low budget lol
