Hi everyone.
First off, great forum. Iv been through a good few threads now and i must say i'm impressed with the amount of help people get when building a new rig.

Here we go.
I'm a total war gamer (mainly Empire and Shogun 2) and would like to see the best improvement possible for £500.

What iv got already
monitor,Hdd,OS,keyboard and mouse. Ive also got a 6850 that will be getting upgraded after Christmas, so no need for that either.

The system I have now is a Q8300 at 3.0GHz, 4gb 1066 ram on a Asus P5QL PRO, and i play mostly on high to ultra, but I really want to see some bigger battles on a better resolution (that'll be where the better card comes in I know) which means more muscle.
So I think ill be needing CPU MOBO ram and a PSU.
I would like to maybe do a little bit of overclocking but nothing to serious.

I hope iv covered everything. thanks for any help.

Come on guys, I wanna be sure I put the best possible parts together.
I forgot to mention that I wont be needing a DVD drive, and the case I'm liking so far is the Corsair Carbide 300R.

What PSU do you have at the moment? It would be a big help to your budget if it could be re-used. Same for your case, can that be re-used?

You should still get around £70ish for your 6850 2nd hand, if you want to raise more money. In fact I reckon all the kit you are replacing should still have decent resell value.

I hadn't thought about selling my older stuff.(I should add that I have all the boxes and packaging for everything so maybe ill get lucky, and get a good price)
As for my psu, its garbage an old 550watt by mercury, that a friend donated last year, and my case is crap, a new i5 deserves better.
So yer if I did sell my old components how much more do you think it could push up my budget, maybe £100 £150 ?I could add a new card then ;).

Go for a 3570k, around 175, gigabyte z77 board around 85, 8gb ddr3 ram, around 45, decent 600w coolermaster/corsair PSU around 45, cheap SSD boot drive, around 50, case is personal choice, but id go for the bitfenix shinobi, 45 ish.
total: 445.
or opt for the 3770k, a beasty cpu, around 255, total: 525ish.

Yes the i5 3570k is a must. I like the shinobi case, but the Corsair Carbide 300R has those side mounted hdds, me likey. I just wish it looked as good as the shinobi.
