Hi guys, after a light gaming htpc. Mainly for playing a few games on high settings and ultimately for xbmc it's to settle in the living room in the entertainment unit and must please the lady hence the ml07. Pref quadcore, no overclocking. I'm after as silent as possible. Don't require peripherals but do need an os. Budget £500.
Cheers people.

If I bumped up my budget to £600 would I be giving you guys abit more headroom, I would sooner not compromise given that this machine will be on nearly 24/7.

Thanks for the tip tele.
I'm torn between the anni pentium K or the i3, the reviews and the price point of the G3258 are outstanding but will I be Gimping myself with dual core?
I'm only gaming at 1080p so I'd favour the silence of the 960 over the power of the 280 I think.
I've been looking at matx but I just can't seem to find a case small enough to blend in, that's the reason I went with the ml07, it also keeps the other half happy. Cheers for the suggestions guys.

Ok guys so here's were I'm upto
Msi r9 280
Msi z971 mobo
250gb EVO ssd
G3258
Bequiet sfx 400
Ml07b
Teamgrp elite 8gb.

I'm going to leave windows till next payday. Comes in at £553 without Os.
Are we all gravy?
To add aswell swapping out the Msi z971 to a asus h81i plus which apparently to online sources can overclock the G3258 at a £30 difference or am I turning into a filthy scrimper?

Ok Danny, excuse my epic scrimping but going off your advice ive come up with this.
msi r9 270
250gb evo
g3258
msi z87i b grade
ml07
teamgrp 8gb
seasonic eco 430w

comes in at £506

Now the gfx and psu are just one 6 pin and i can think i can sacrifice the gpu power as ill mainly be playing eve online which i used to play on high setting on an old inspiron many moons ago.
Are we golden?

ps. try as i might i cant get the cart to work in chrome so excuse my component short hand.

Hmmm your right it will be placed within the entertainment unit I can see that being a problem. Hardwork this itx lark ain't it. To be fair though the grandia looks remarkably sleek and over all better. Seems it could be matx after all. I'm generally after best bang for buck and itx seems to go firmly against that grain :/

To add, Im glad you brought that up because I was one post off hitting the buy button. Hehe.

Right folks, I had to re-evaluate what this machine was going to primarily be for which is xbmc with my gaming a close second so I've been trying cram as much into the budget as possible within the case which after all won't be cool at all given there's no air circulation at all. So the case I've picked which will go besides the tv will be a cm 110 elite with the following:

Palit 750ti kalmx 2gb
G3258
Silverstone argon cooler
EVO 250gb ssd
Asus h81i plus
Teamgroup 8gb ram
Seasonic eco 430w ( cm 110 is atx)

Comes in at the £500 mark, I feel like I've taken enough of you kind folks time on this matter and you've helped me no end which I can't thank you enough for.
The cm 110 is from another retail because ocs don't sell it grrr ><
Are we golden?

Dacads, I took an honest look at the amount of gaming I would actually be doing...deus ex and xcom might get a spin once a week when the other half is in work and eve online is an mmo so server side plays a pivotal role in the experience. Spending more for what will be used less marginally compared to xbmc gave my head a wobble.
Having said that I've still not pushed the buy button but I intend to today after mulling over it one more time.
Exciting stuff this picking components lark.
