Hi all,

A friend of mine was saying how he was going to spend £500 on a XBone. I suggested that he could probably buy a half decent gaming PC for that.

Now as I only read up on things when its time for me to upgrade I have no idea whats what.

This will be used as a gaming PC.

I can loan him a couple of bits but it will pretty much be everything needed build, including a monitor.

Things not needed:
Hard drive
Windows
mouse/keyboard/headphones
DVD drive

I've made a little attempt myself and I am over budget. Please penny pinch where possible. I went with that 270 as BF4 is included. I guess in the long run it would be better to spend the extra £10 and get the 270x ?

YOUR BASKET
1 x Sapphire Radeon R9 270 "BF4 Edition" 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £149.99
1 x BenQ GW2265M 22" Widescreen Flicker FREE LED Monitor - Black £95.99
1 x AMD Piledriver FX-6 Six Core 6300 Black Edition 3.50GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail £89.99
1 x Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 AMD 970 (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard £79.99

1 x BitFenix Merc Beta Gaming Case - Black £29.99
Total : £565.92 (includes shipping : FREE).

Thanks in advance.

If he was planning on buying a console and plugging it into his TV, can you not drop the monitor from the build and use the PC on the TV?

I do recommend a PC over an Xbox One, as I have compared the 270 & Xbox One on Battlefield 4, and the Xbox feels so so behind, I do enjoy the controller for trigger vibration and lovely design on the triggers. But for gameplay for Battlefield & Ghosts looks... well, not that great!

I was looking forward to the next gen consoles blowing me away & they never, so I opted for a rig & Xbox 360 in the living room over an Xbox One.

If you get him to use his TV over a monitor you can get something like this:

1 x HIS Radeon R9 270X IceQ BOOST 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £149.99

I hear what you are saying but in position that the TV is in and the mouse and keyboard would be resting on a low coffee table with cables running across the room, it wouldn't be a good gaming experience.

I'll have a talk with him on Monday to see if he could stretch to £600.

Like I said it will take a month or so for him to get the money together and I was getting a feel for what he could get.

Thank you for the input though! :)

He can use an Xbox 360 controller, either wired with a USB extension if required, or a wireless one with a PC receiver.
