£500 build

friends wanting to spend about £500 on a build, will be used for playing games.
Any ideas? This is everything except the monitor.

What resolution is the monitor? Will you/he be overclocking? By 'everything' do you mean you need the OS too? What about mouse/keyboard?

sorry, no mouse keyboard just the case etc. No overclocking, havent decided on a monitor yet, proberly 17" 1024 x768

I think 17" monitors are 1280*1024

p4radox's specification above looks good, you may want to even consider a 20" monitor, there are some that cost barely any more than a 17" display and the graphics card is easily capable.

I'd spend an extra 2 quid for OCZ 6400 RAM, but otherwise p4radox's spec is spot on
