Hi, I'm looking to build a pc for gaming which I'll be using through my tv. I know £500 is a tight budget but I'm realistic and not expecting to be running bf4 on max settings.

This will be my first build, and also the first pc I'll have bought in about 5 years :o so any help is greatly appreciated. I've looked through a few threads and seen what a helpful bunch you can be so thought I may as well see what builds you suggest rather then blindly cherry picking from other's threads.

I'll be connecting to my tv using hdmi if that makes any difference and will need an operating sytem. My budget can maybe stretch a little if you can persuade me that I'll get a significant improvement.

I look forward to seeing what you recommend. Thanks in advance :)

If you insist... ;)

And going with Stu's suggestion of using the Windows 8 trial:

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI Radeon R9 270X Gaming Edition OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £157.99
1 x AMD Piledriver FX-6 Six Core 6350 Black Edition 3.90GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail £95.99
1 x Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 AMD 970 (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard £74.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan ORANGE 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLAD38G2400HC11CDC01) £55.99
1 x Silverstone Strider Essential Bronze - 700W (SST-ST70F-ESB) £49.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) HDD £41.99
1 x Aerocool V3X Advance Black Edition Midi-Tower - Black £25.99
1 x Deepcool GAMMAXX S40 CPU-Cooler - 120mm £19.99
1 x Pioneer 24x Internal DVR-221LBK DVD Rewriter - OEM £17.99
Total : £550.51 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Improvements:

1. 270X series card. One of the best models.

2. 3.9GHz six-core CPU. Usually not worth it as the 3.5 can be overclocked, but it's on offer right now, so you already start off with 0.4GHz extra right out of the box for only £10 more. Can still be debated if it's worth it but it's an improvement which I'd go for.

3. Better mobo. Including USB 3.0 for case's front panel ports.

4. Four heatpipe aftermarket cooler from company that makes very decent cooling gear for the price. So that you can overclock, or not have to put up with noisy stock cooler.

5. CrossFire ready PSU. 2 x 270X's can reportedly often outgun a single 290X. So upgrading graphics performance in future would be cheaper. Alternatively, it has room to handle a single more powerful card in future.
