Hey!

Just wanted to get everyone's opinion on what I could get for around £500, I don't want to build the computer myself because I'm pretty heavy handed. Rather not risk it!

I will be using the computer for video editing, playing & recording games plus the usual browsing the internet etc..

Thanks :)

This has £20 odd in cashback, free copy of doom (which you can keep or sell to recoup some cost)

I would suggest something like this and then waiting for the rx480

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £401.58
(includes shipping: £11.70)

If you need more budget for storage then go for i5 6400 and h110 motherboard

I'm happy to spend £34 extra, as you can probably guess, i'm a newbie with all this, no idea what works best with what.

Presuming it can run games like Grand Theft Auto V on medium to high settings?

Also, how do I go about getting OcUK to build it for me?

Yes, likely a mixture of medium/high settings @ 1080p. Grass on normal (as this is the biggest hit) and shadows on medium/normal, MSAA off or x2 only, and you can raise other stuff more. Recommend windowed mode and no Vsync.

This guy shows his settings and the fps he gets, to give you an idea:

Ah, brilliant! So, how would I go about getting OcUK to build it and ship it to me? I can't seem to find an option for that.

that i3 is gunna struggle with editing/rendering videos. if you can pony up the cash, get an i5. Also the 370 is a bad idea considering AMD are releasing a new series of cards within the next few weeks, so will be worth waiting until then

If he needs to render fast then he'd need to spend more money that's for sure. If he can't just now, then start with i3 and save up for an even better i7 later.

Agree as well, but it might be more than a few weeks unless the release goes flawlessly. The availability of recent GPU releases has been sparse and with lengthy delays. Also the budget does not fit a 480 which would be the most worthwhile.

But yeah - more money, more waiting is ideal. Otherwise, it'll do to begin with.

Perhaps spend less on storage, drop in a hard drive as required. Use an alternative to retail windows, use 8gb or ram instead of 16.

Would easily pay for the price difference between an i5, and almost pay for the difference for the rx480

for what you want you should maybe aim for an i7 as the extra cores will benefit in the editing etc if you plan on using heavy programs and atleast 16gb of ram if not 32gb

good luck getting an i7 in for around £500, you would have to compromise a lot.

An i5 will be plenty for light video work as I am assuming that you aren't making any money from your multimedia work and you need money left over for a decent gpu

Unfortunately, i'm on a budget at the moment. I'll be able to get it upgraded if needs be.

The rendering speeds don't need to be really fast, just as long as it doesn't take around 2 hours.

Yeah, I could always get an external hard drive if needs be.

Make a post in the Customer Services forum, link them to the spec you want, ask them for advice too.

Pre-Sales Queries, I think.

Ah, right. Thank you.
