£500 Help

Hello, I have been reading reading and reading over the last few weeks about what I should get for a new computer. I haven't had a 'gaming pc' since my p4 with a AGP card and have been stuck playing on a laptop (i5 with a 6630m) for some time. I recently got a bonus from work which has finally given me the opportunity to purchase a pc along with the gf's approval.

I recently purchased a 270x after finding a good deal a few weeks back. I am now the rest of the computer to match. I don't need anything other than a tower, have a 120hz 1080p monitor and peripherals, prob just get windows from the usual ways

I was set on buying a AMD 6300 or 8320 but I just see countless threads/websites etc and I get the feeling like id be missing out by not going for intel.

Is it possible to get a i5k for this price? If so some specs would be great. I am willing to miss out on a SSD to accommodate this choice however I would appreciate any builds with a AMD and SSD along with thoughts and opinions.

thanks for those builds, what's your thoughts on both options? worth getting the i5 over the amd? And would both give decent overclocks?

dont need the dvd drive, gonna have a browse on the cases as the zalman is just yuk, any other suggestions?

ready to buy on the build stulid listed above, just not sure on the deepcool sink with no user reviews on overclockers itself.

All arrived today, is the thermal paste preapplied on the deep cool heatsink?

One more thing, would I be better off mounting it facing up, blowing up through the top of the case or down into the case?

The mrs opened it up for me, said there's no pack inside but like a grey square on the bottom of the heatsink, sounds like preapplied? So the fan on the heatsink on the left hand side ?
