£500 Intel build - Possible?

Over the past couple of months I've been gaming on my boot camped MBP and it handles games okay but on mega low graphics and it constantly lags due to poor on board graphics.

I know its not much but I'm looking to spend around £500 for an intel build if that's possible? I've looked at the intel processors and they vary in price but I've always wanted to swap to intel from AMD.

I don't mind going down the AMD route again if its better bang for buck but ideally I'd like to venture down the intel path.

I don't need; OS, Mouse & Keyboard or Monitor.

Cheers for the help :)

id head down the secondhand route.

Pick up a 2500k/3570k and motherboard to suit. That should only set you back £150-£180..

For the GPU a 7850 with the free games is a bargain.. :)

That's not a bad price for CPU and Mobo, might check out the MM

Awesome, thank you, I'll probably keep looking around for a secondhand CPU, I'll keep checking the MM and see if anything pops up.

Thank you all for the other suggestions, I might try and save a little more so I have a better budget to play around with, but for £500 and just over there are some decent builds which will last easily a couple of years with an upgrade here and there.

Holy thread revival, just an update to say I no longer need a PSU in the bundle as my brother has returned my XFX Pro 650W :)

Thanks for the reply, I'm a bit behind on all of this but what's all of this 'B grade' stuff?

Edit: What would a £600 build look like?

Graphics card is likely to be just a card with nothing else. Nothing wrong with that though, my GTX670 was B-grade and is a beauty.

Motherboards could be just the board, no I/O shield, accessories or anything. Personally i would'nt buy a B-grade mobo due to the high chance of just a bare board.

This is worth a look. At that price for a brand new board it's unbeatable, Yes i know it's pci-e 2.0 and not 3.0 but the performance difference is not that much.

I was a bit concerned with the motherboard being a b grade and as you've stated you don't quite know what's missing until you've got the product.

That's a cracking price for a new board, if there's no significant different between pci-e 2.0 and 3.0 that board is a steal for that price.

Cheers for the info and recommendation.

OEM version £6 cheaper

Price seems to have gone up by a few quid and no more grid 2

Or if you plan on sli/xfire in the future(the above mb isn't suitable for xfire as the 2nd pcie is only 4x, doesn't support sli)

Both are beautiful boards but for a £500 - £600 build it might be a bit pricey?

Well the CPU+mb is half /just over half your budget, ram for £50, GPU ~£150(or less I'd you go the b grade route). Leaves case + HDD(do you have a HDD you can reuse?).
Would most like be in the £600-£700 range rather than £500-£600.

I do have two other HDDs but they have stuff on them and I can't remember which was which as one only had games and a few files installed on it, so it would be nice to reuse that one but I need to find out which is which first

Another option is if you don't want to/can't go the 'full hog' 4670k route is go for the cheapest haswell CPU @~£150 then in the future upgrade to the 4670k/4770k or the updated versions of them as there's meant to be a die shrink/updated version in the next couple of years(similar to what we had with the sb to ib for the 1155 socket).

I'll scout around in the MM I think and see if anything pops up in there, it may save me a few ££
