What is your current spec dreadknot? and what resolution do you game at? lastly, what games do you play/intend on playing.
 
id go for cf 7950's too, im usually an nvidia fan, but for the price vs performance, you cannot beat these, you can get a pair of twin frozer's for slightly less than budget.
 
Not sure why people are recommending Crossfire without knowing his current system or needs.

CF/SLI can be very noisy (which for some isn't acceptable)

It can get very hot in tight cases and cause issues.

PSU might not be upto the job.
